Beyonce/ Sasha Fierce
The piece where the face is non existent to me is quite good enough to be made into a final piece because it shows a template of someones character/persona/alter ego - whoever- whatever you want to be, you place over her face. I think subconsciously i made the piece with no face because i watched a TV show - Perez Hilton meets Kelly Rowland (itv2) - and in the show they went to a shop/studio place where you could get a photograph of your face, the it is uploaded into the computer which has different magazines and posters with the faces cut out so your head goes in the empty space and you become that character.
I am a Shape
The technique of copying a photograph soon came apparent to me that people would look at my work then the photograph and compare how close i have copied it; even though I am not aiming to copy the photograph looked at completely - I may have to abandon this method.
Marilyn Manson
After being disappointed with not being able to replicate exactly what i was seeing, since i always seem to wonder off somewhere... I decided to create a character which to me summed up Marilyn Manson's past, character and alter ego. The main colours used were : Black - dark, gloomy, scary
Red - evil, blood, horror
Blue - his makeup and contact lense
I made the eye look realistic - so that his alter ego is coming to life - taking over him. I used poster paint with this piece and think it worked quite well because it looks textured/ comes more to life.
Nicki Minaj Character
The Nicki Minaj Character is me trying to have something quick and simple which can sometimes be more effective in creating someones character( an illustration/ cartoon version of them)
I plan to scan the quick doodle into Photoshop or another programme and work on it to make it more interesting / come to life- look more like a finished piece, so far it looks like just a quick doodle.
Andy Six/ Andy Biersack
I had a go at copying a photograph completely using the grid system and i think it really worked well with this piece because of the way the image (which is a caption of a music video) has the singers face half in the dark and half in the light - his eyes are bright and he has a fierce expression - it is a caption of his alter ego... I quite like the sketch i did in my sketchbook and would like to make it into a final piece. I shall scan it in the Mac's, and work on in so it looks like a poster image. I am not too keen on adding text onto it as i think that would run the image, but i will have a go and see how things turn out.
Lady Gaga - Illustration
The Lady Gaga piece is supposed to look like a character wearing things which would be associated with her ; such as the big hair bow and angled dresses.
In my sketchbook I have the image I looked at next to my illustration of the image - I would not place them together because people would focus on the image more than my work.
I got this advise from my tutor and peers when creating an online portfolio, where i was trying to show some sketchbook work. My peers said that placing the image of Lady Gaga next to my illustration lost focus on what i had created.
I plan to also scan my sketch into a computer, play around with it to create a "final piece" which could go into my portfolio.
